Taiwan has a population of 22.8 million. More than 18 million, the "native" Taiwanese, are descendants of Chinese who migrated from Fujian and Guangdong Provinces on the mainland.About 370,000 aborigines inhabiting the mountainous central and eastern parts of the island are the most famous and mainly nationality called Gaoshan nationality.

Taiwan has many of its own local specialties.Ilan is famous for its mochi, a sticky rice snack often flavored with sesame, peanuts or other flavorings. Soy milk and breakfast foods in Yonghe, which is a suburb of Taipei, sun cakes in Taichung , a kind of sweet stuffed pastry and square cookies in Jiayi are all very famous foods that visitors can enjoy themselves.
There are two kinds of well-known tea in Taiwan--High Mountain Oolong and Tie Guan-yin.The Pearl milk tea,which is quite popular in mainland,is a drink that most foreigners like very much. |
