Tibet

Tibet (Tibet Autonomous Region, TAR for short), the Roof of the World, remained unknown to the world until the very beginning of the 20th century.It is the main parts of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau located in the southwest border area of China .The plateau is surrounded by the highest mountain ranges,and you can find the highest mountain here,it's an ideal place for climbers and scientists.

Ethnic Minority Group
There are more than ten ethnic groups in Tibet, including Tibetan, Mongolian, Nu, Drung,and so on. Among them, Tibetans are the dominant inhabitants of Tibet, accounting for d92.2 percent of the local population,they have their own language and written script. Most Tibetan people are Buddhist.

Climate
Tibet has a highland climate, with lower temperature and less precipitation than most parts of China. It has thin air, long hours of sunshine and intense solar radiation. The climate in northern part is much colder than the southern part,its anual temperature is -2oC in north while the other is 8oC.

Cities and Highlights
Lhasa, capital of the Tibet ,means “sacred land” in Tibetan.It has a history of over 13 centuries. With more than 3,000 hours of sunshine annually, Lhasa is famed as " the City of Sunshine".
Potala Palace, symbol of Lhasa, is on the top of the Potala Hill.The palace, 117 meters tall and 40 meters wide, has towering buildings with golden roofs and a group of huge castle palaces, which is divided into white and red palaces for the color of their walls.
Potala Palace is also a world of murals, which are painted in hundreds of halls and corridors reflecting the history,religion,culture and arts of Tibet.

Tibetan Buddhism has a great influence in the daily life of the Tibetan people,so there are many temples in Lhasa.In Tibet visitors can see many pilgrims who prostrate themselves every nine steps on their way from their hometowns to the holy city of Lhasa.
Norbu Lingka Park, or "Treasured Garden", With a layout similar to imperial gardens in the Chinese interior, the park was a summer resort for Dalai Lamas. In the garden, colorful, exotic flowers are shaded by towering rare trees, and golden buildings and the lake add radiance and beauty to each other.

Mount Everest:The 8,844.43-meter Qomolangma is the main peak of the Himalayas. Situated on the border between China and Nepal, it is the highest mountain in the world.

Nam Lake is the highest large lake in China, also known as Heavenly Sea.Dzashi Monastery on Dzashi Peninsula in Nam Lake is a sacred place to Buddhists. Thousands of pilgrims travel a long way to worship here on the Tibetan New Year.

Tibetan New Year is the most important festival in Tibet. It is an occasion when Tibetan families reunite and expect that the coming year will be a better one.Tibetans eat Guthuk (barley crumb food with filling) on New Year's Eve with their families.

Other festival like the Great Prayer Festival,The Butter Lamp Festival,Saka Dawa Festival,Shoton Festival are contributed to the interesting and unique Tibet minority culture.

Great taste
Tibetan cuisine includes Zanba (roasted highland qingke barley flour), meat, and milk products.
Specialties are yoghourt made from yak milk which is also used to produce excellent and famed cheeses. Zanba in Lhasa and a particularly excellent recipe for stewed chicken with mushrooms in Nyingchi, and so on.
