Weigi is popular among children as well. In June 1992 the children's board game tournaments, which included Chinese chess, chess, weiqi and bridge, were held in Tianjin. Over 6,400 children of ages 4-8 took part in the tournaments and among them there were 2,800 children who came to compete in the weiqi tournaments. In Tianjin there have been four primary schools that have included weiqi classes in their teaching plans.
