Spring Festival is a children's holiday, during which toys are essential. Adults would make toys themselves or part with a little cash to buy some from the Changdian Temple Fair, the most famous of its kind in old Beijing. All kinds of toys were on display and people jostled each other in crowd. There were also monthly temple fairs in each district of the city, at which more toys could be found.
The clay toys from Beijing were exquisitely made with accurate modeling and bright colors, so some adults even used toys, like clay horse-and-carts, as ornaments.
