Ma Liwen graduated from the directing department of the Central Drama Institute in 1996. The film The Person Who Doted on Me
Passed Away earned her special honors at the Sixth Changchun Film Festival in 2002. The movie was named an excellent Chinese
film, and Ma received the awards for best director and best supporting actress. The film Two of Us, which she directed last year,
has been selected as one of the candidates for the Tokyo Film Festival.
Ma was named best director at the 14th Film Festival of the Golden Rooster Award and Hundred Flowers Award.
