Cha Boxing , otherwise named “Fork Boxing” or “Inserting Boxing”, is so named , because its moves are
largely “zha” (finger thrusting) . It has three characteristic : First , it has a clear rhythm , secondly , its moves are coherent , starting quickly and halting stably . Thirdly , it exerts force with momentum . It requires “to stride like wind , stand like a nail , rise like an ape , and fall like an eagle .” Moving should be as a fierce tiger , stopping should be firm as a mountain . The moves should be swift , unhurried , staunch yet nimble. The sequences should be clear-cut , with sudden turning and stopping . Whether attacking or defending , advancing or retreating , the sequences should be fast but not disorderly , slow but coherent .The postures should be proper . Actions should be coordinated . The ten keys for the action are shrinking , minimizing , twining , soft , cunning ,missing , speeding , firm , direct and sliding . The hand actions include thrusting , tantalizing , splitting , covering , picking , embracing , inserting and cutting . The body actions are : evading , turning , bending , diving , thrusting , bumping, squeezing , and leaning . The leg actions are : treading , ejecting , kicking , leaping , stamping , inserting and skimming . The foot actions are : advancing , retreating , circling , sticking-in , dashing and turning .

Taiji Boxing was named after the term “tai ji” (supreme ultimate from the “Book of Changes” , believed to be composed by King Wen of the Zhou Dynasty . The term means that the universe was an entirety before it divided into heaven and earth . The Taiji Boxing prevailing in the recent one hundred years has been sourced from many forms of folk boxing , and has been improved on through several generations .
Taiji Boxing is characterized by the unification of mind , breath and motions ( body ) , requiring concentration of mind and calmness of motions . “Mind works as a commander and body a soldier ;” “When in motion all of the body moves . When a rest , all of the body rests.” “Calmness is required for motion .” Simple force is not preferred . Force is like a wheel and waist is its axis. The motions are continuous as a circle . The breath is deep and controlled by the diaphragm . Be concentrated , gentle and natural . Be stable as a mountain when not moving , and be flowing as a river when moving . The moves are characterized by roundness , softness , slowness , stability and evenness . They are extended but very well coordinated , and all are an antithetical unity of Yin and Yang (negative and positive) . These principles are the same for all schools of Taiji boxing , though their types are different , There are mainly five types . Chen-Type , Yang-Type , Wuu-Type , Wu-Type , and Sun-Type .
