Traditionally, the meals are set on a round table. The most important
table manner of all is well expressed by "eating together but not eating fully( 共饭不饱)" and "when eating together, no covering of hands( 共饭不摆手)".

The following are some specific guidelines.

  •   Seats are arranged according to rank or social standing, so be careful when
          seating.

  •   Wait for the elders to begin the meal first.

  •   When a new course is served, the elders are first to eat.

  • Since the food stand rotates on the round table, eat only what is in front of you.
Do not stand up or reach out far with the chopsticks.

  • Do not eat only one food that suits your taste best.

  • Do not get more food if there is some left in your dish, and wait for your turn
          after you empty your dish.

  • Do not spit out what is in your mouth; when you bite a bone, take it out
          with the chopsticks.

  •  Selecting food too slowly is also
a bad manner. You should be
            fast when picking.

  • Leave some food on the dish,
but empty the rice in your rice
            bowl.

  • Do not flip over fish,
and the head of fish is for
            the eldest person to eat.

Chinese enjoy eating very much and are noisy during meals. It is important to adopt the same mood with a good attitude and joyful conversations.
