Wine is often given as gifts or prizes during such festivals. According to the Yi people's customs, one should not refuse a woman's toast, and should give her something as a present in return.During  the Torchlight  Festival (traditionally observed by the Yi, Bai and some other minority groups near the end of the sixth month of the lunar calendar), young Yi girls carry newly made corn wine and exquisite drinking utensils to the streets. They line up to offer wine-called "young women's wine"-to their elders friends, relatives and lovers. The women
also vie with each other to offer wine to the winners of the wrestling, horseracing and bullfighting competitions. Wine is commonly offered as a gift to and by many of China's minority groups, such as the Yi, Bai, Jingpo and Miao people. It is as indispensable as meat and tea.
