Milk tea is a staple for many, if not all, of the minority groups in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The region's residents say one will become ill if he/she does not drink milk tea. The people might go a day without eating, but they will never go without their milk tea. The types of milk tea, and the methods for making the tea, vary from group to group, and from region to region. For example, the Kazaks prefer to drink Mixin tea; Mongolians prefer blue brick tea; the Uygurs, Xibes and Tatars enjoy Tuckahoe brick tea; and the Tajiks like black tea.
