Mongolians traditionally are herders.Meat is a staple in their diets, so they drink lots of milk tea to supplement the lack of vegetables in their diets. They use black brick tea, cow's milk or goat's milk and salt to make their milk tea. When making the tea, they mash some brick tea and boil it, and then they add milk and a little salt.
They drink milk tea three times a day. Each morning, the first task for a Mongolian housewife is to boil a pot of salty milk tea for her family. Mongolians prefer to drink hot tea, while they eat fried millet. They realize milk tea helps relieve fatigue, is refreshing, helps improve the appetite and digestion, reduces blood pressure and prevents hardening of the arteries.
Mongolians are hospitable. They treat guests with their best foods, including fried millet, butter, milk tofu, brown sugar, cakes and hot milk tea.
