Can face changing be simply considered a magic trick? No! It is too vivid and striking.
The essence of face changing lies in the meanings it contains and the emotions it expresses. Just as in the drams Hamlet, if we only focus on the demons on the stage, we will never understand Shakespeare’s great intension. Face changing only has genuine artistic value changing only has genuine artistic value when it is performed in a certain setting and is combined with appropriate vocal music.
Most performers use the “tearing the face” method of face changing. There are, however, many different ways to perform face changing. It is not always necessary to change the whole face. The “smearing the face” method is done by performers who smear their faces with colored paste concealed in the palms of their hands. The blowing the face” method is done by actors who change the color of their faces by blowing into a bowl of gold, black or silver powder. The “tearing the face” method is the most complicated one, which is easy to believe given the speed in which performers put on and peel off numerous masks. “Qigong face changing” uses the power of Qigong to change faces.
