*Wealth and power cannot corrupt him, poverty can not sway his principles and threats cannot make him bend.
Only such a person can be called a gentleman.
富贵不能淫,贫贱不能移,威武不能屈,此之谓大丈夫.

人不可以无耻,无耻之耻,无耻矣。
*Bodily form and appearance are endowed by Heaven. Outer beauty must be enriched by inner beauty, but this can only be done by a sage.
形色,天性也;惟圣人然后可以践形。
*Everyone has something that he cannot bear. To extend such an aversion to what he can bear is benevolent. Everyone has something that he refuses to do. To extend such an aversion to willingness to do such a thing is righteous.
人皆有所不忍,达之于其所忍,仁也。人皆有所不为,达之于其所为,义也。
