Since 1974 when the first overpass in Beijing, the Fuxingmen Overpass, was open to traffic, more overpasses have been built, many along the Second and Third Ring Roads. In September 1993, the over 18 kilometer express highway from the airport to Sanyuan Overpass was completed and open to traffic. The Siyuan Overpass is a magnificent group of 26 bridges that spiral up in four layers and cover 50 hectares. The Siyuan Overpass is the biggest urban overpass in the country. Now overpasses have appeared at almost all the hubs of transportation where a men used to be located. Many overpass names still contain men, the original names of the gate that stood there. Now there are bridges over roads and gates below bridges, radiating in all directions.
