As China's capital, Beijing only has a history of 45 years since the founding of New China in 1949. But beginning 1421, Beijing used to be the capital of the two most recent feudal dynasties, the Ming(1368-1644 )
and Qing(1644-191 I)，and the early Republic of China(1912-1949). At that time, Beijing was rebuilt and enlarged from Khanbalic City, capital of the Yuan Dynasty(1271一1368): Emperor Shizu, called Kublai, began to build Khanbalic City in 1264, thus formally founding what is today Beijing in 1285. By 1293, Beijing was a well-known bustling city.
