A long time ago, a poor family, living in a mountainous region, borrowed some rice and flour from their relatives on lunar New Year's
Eve. They made dumplings with the stuffing of some mixed stew. To them, the food was as precious as a treasure, so they carefully placed the dumplings in circles. The "kitchen god" was very pleased by the beautifully arranged dumplings. There also lived a rich man in the same village, and he was tired of all kinds of delicacies. On lunar New Year's Eve, he ordered his servants to make dumplings, with a meat and egg stuffing, and put them, without care, on the round vat lid. To their surprise, the stuffing in the cooked dumplings had somehow been changed to a radish. It turned out the "kitchen god," dissatisfied with the wealthy man's careless attitude, replaced his dumplings with those of the poor family. The story eventually spread among the villagers, and as a result, it became customary for the local people to placedumplings, carefully, in circles to please the "kitchen god."
