

Making the stuffing is the first step when cooking dumplings. Ingredients for the stuffing, usually made from diced meat and vegetables, are mixed in due proportions, and then the seasonings are added. The most important step in the process, however, is chopping up the vegetables. The rhythmic sound of knives striking the cutting boards in a neighborhood creates a beautiful melody. People vie with each other to chop for the longest time, and to create the greatest sound, to indicate their thriving family lives.
