注释 Notes
①大老粗dàlǎocū: uncouth fellow, used to refer to people with little education. The father calls himself so out of modesty.
②拐弯抹角ɡuǎi wān mò jiǎo: ambiguous, to talk in a roundabout way. This originally meant “to walk along a road with twists and turns”. The expression is used to mean that one does not speak or write in a straightforward way. Here father means that he talks to the point.
③招眼zhāoyǎn: eye-catching.drawing one's attention.
④啥 shá: An expression in Northern dialect, meaning “what”. Here it is used at the end of a series of things, indicating “and so on”.
⑤反正fǎnzhenɡ: Used to indicate that whatever the circumstances, the result is the same. Here Dachuan means that whatever his father lists, he is very sure he is in possession of.
⑥正道zhènɡdào: the right way. Dào means “road” and zhengdao (also zhenglu) is used to indicate that one behaves or handles affairs in a sensible and proper manner. Its opposite is xiedao (the evil way).
