Pottery craft has been a particular branch of the Chinese art . 
Chinaware shines as the unique genre and aesthetic objects in the treasury of China art .
As is known to all , earthenware was universal in pre-historic culture , but China was the homeland and birthplace of it . The art of Chinese pottery has a long history .
The production of Chinese pottery started in the Shang Dynasty and matured considerably in the Eastern Han Dynasties . This long period was the inception period of pottery , and the pottery in the period was called the “primitive pottery” . Both pottery and bronze were produced under high temperatures . “Ceramic and castings” used to be a combined term . Only in the Tang Dynasty pottery entered a new historic period .
There were all sorts of porcelain articles , ranging from ten sets to tableware , wine vessels , stationery , toys , musical instruments and other daily articles ,as well as embellishing and exhibition articles . The forms of the Tang porcelain are at the same time plump and intricate , plain and varied . Yue Kiln in the south and Xin Kiln in the north were two famous porcelain kilns . The products of Yue Kiln (celadon) were hard ,and translucent like emerald . A piece of blue Yue porcelain was unearthed from the tomb of Li Shuang in Xian , who was buried in the first year of the reign of Zongshang (668 A.D. ) of Emperor Gao in the Tang Dynasty . Its blue glaze was as bright as a mirror . The Yue kiln porcelain was commented by the Tang scholar Lu Yu in his “Tea Canon” as “quasi jade” and “quasi ice” . Xin porcelain kiln was located at Xintai country of Hebei province . The porcelain products of Xin kiln were fine and smooth , with bright white glaze . In addition , in different localities were produced various black-glazed , yellow-glazed , brown-glazed and dark brown glazed porcelain articles , that were plain and uncouth , with marked local flavors . Many decorative methods were used , including printing , scratching , embossing , incising , moulding , etc . Also , more patterns were used , including patterns of flowers and birds .
