In brief, the not-alphabetic square script of the Chinese words has become an important characteristic of the Chinese culture. The Chinese words combine forms and meaning, and by looking at them, they give the reader an intense, direct stimulus, which influences the traditional way of thinking that stresses intuition and wholeness. This influence can often enhance the effects of the literary works. Take for instance the poem written by Xie Lingyun : “峭岭稠叠,洲萦诸连绵” ( Towering ridges pied up ) . Islet are arrayed one after another. ), (“Passing the Field of shining”). The forms of words of this poem give the readers the impression of many mountain ridges and a flowing river, and make the readers empathetic with his sad, complex feelings. Take for another instance a poem written by Mei Shenyu : “涉淮淮水浅,诉溪溪水迟” (“Wading across the Huai River I found it shallow . Tracing along a brook I found it slow”.) (“Send off Scholar official Jinag to Muzhou to be a Magistrate”) . The poem uses nine words consecutively with forms related to water, thus giving the readers an impression of a trip by waterway. Take for instance another poem of his describing birds , in “鸦鸣鹊噪*鹆叫” ( Crows at Pu Jing Temple”) . In this poem he used five character with forms related to birds to make the readers feel as if hearing birds chirping.
This characteristic of the Chinese words influences not only literature but fine arts as well, A principle of coining the Chinese words is: “Making pictographs based on shapes of things and finding origins from nature”. Therefore the Chinese words are both practical and aesthetical In the legend of “Cang Ji Coining Characters” it is stated that “he adopted the fine aspects and combined them into characters”. This legend has the implication of aesthetics. So, the forms of the Chinese characters have been developing through several thousand years.

The forms of the Chinese characters have developed from Tortoise Shells Script to Bronze Script , Seal Script , Official Script , Wei Tablet Inscription Script , Liu Style , Son Style and modern simple style .All the forms are varied and handsome , which can consist of straight strokes , and can be flamboyant , dignified or vigorous . The art of calligraphy of the Chinese characters is unique in the history of word development in the word, unmatchable by any other scripts. Furthermore the traditional Chinese seal engraving art, though involving the skills of sculpture, displays the aesthetics of lines and strokes of the characters. Many forms and styles of the Chinese characters are used on the seals, which form a system by themselves. The arrangement of the different forms of characters on the seals further enhances the beauty of the Chinese characters greatly.

. Simplicity is another characteristic of the Chinese language and the Chinese words. According to the statistics, of all the United Nations documents printed in different language, the Chinese version is the thinnest copy. So, with regard to frugality in time and paper, the advantage of Chinese words is far superior to the Western words.
