The White-Eyebrow Boxing , a branch of the South Boxing , is believed to be initiated by a white-eyebrow monk in
Mount Emei of Sichuan Province . It is now prevailing in Sichuan , Guangdong , Hong Kong and Macao . It is characterized by ferociousness , coherence and wide range . Its hitting moves include whip hitting , double bump hitting and sharp arrow hitting . Its bridging moves include short quick bridging , worming bridging , checking bridging and closing bridging . Its kicking moves include sidewise punting and treading . Its series of boxing moves include the Small-Cross , the Big-Cross , the Three , Six and Eight Trigrams , the Eighteen Bridging , the Tiger Rushing out of the Jungle , etc .
The Shaolin Boxing is the representative boxing of the Long Boxing . In a broad sense, Shaolin Boxing refers to the broader Shaolin School . In a narrow sense , it refers to the boxing practiced by the monks in the Shaolin Temple on Mount Song of Henan province , including the exercises with weapons . In the Qing Dynasty the
monks of Shaolin Temple taught publicly Muscle Changing Exercises , Eight Part Exercises , breathing exercises and some traditional gymnastics . From the turn of the Ming Dynasty to the reign of Emperor Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty , the Shaolin Boxin combined External Dexterity and Inner Vigor . In the modern time, the Shaolin Boxing embodies the art of a Buddhist and is characterized by sturdiness, fast attacks , and coordinated forwards and backward moves . Its serial moves are mostly short and straight . For the postures, it requires to keep the head upright and the eyes focusing on one point , and to take care of the upper , lower , left and right sides.
It requires to stick out the chest and straighten the waist and to bend the knees and close slightly the
toes . The knees should not be extended and the shoulders should not be stressed . While hitting out , the arms should neither be bent nor very straight , so as to defend while attacking and to attack while defending . While moving , gravity should be controlled . Actions should be nimble and stopping should be stable . Legs should be kept low while advancing , and high while retreating . The whole body should be coordinated in making moves . Stepping and striking should be swift . It has many series of move , such as Minor Hong Boxing , Major Hong Boxing , Elder Hong Boxing , Arhat Boxing , Zhao Yang Boxing , Plum Boxing , Cannon Boxing , Seven-Star Boxing , Tender Boxing , etc . The series of sparring include Six-Directions Hand Twisting . Six-Directions Hand Gripping , Six-Directions Ear grasping , and Six-Directions Kicking and Hitting , etc. In addition , there are some separate series of moves for practicing , including Heart-Mind Moves , etc .
