(BEIJING, February 1) -- Frantisek Capek, the 1948 Olympic flatwater canoeing 10,000-meter champion, died Thursday of a heart attack. He was 93.
Capek died in a sanatorium, said the Czech Foundation Sports Representation, which takes care of elderly athletes.
His funeral will be held on February 11 in Prague.
He had three children with his late wife.
Competing for Czechoslovakia, Capek won the 10,000-meter event at the London Olympics and also earned a silver for the same distance event at the 1954 world championships in France. The event is excluded from the Olympic Games now.
