BEIJING, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- German swimmer Britta Steffen won the women's 100 meters freestyle final in China Open here on Friday morning.

The world record holder led throughout the race to clock 54.73 seconds, 1.23 seconds slower than her world mark.

China's Zhu Yingwen finished second in 55.51 seconds with Moravcova Martina from Slovakia third in 55.62.

Steffen said she came for a try of the "Water Cube" (China's National Aquatics Center).

Steffen set a modest goal in the 2008 Olympics, saying she would be happy to make it to the final.

"Winning a medal in the Olympic Games is one of my dreams," Steffen said, adding that swimmers from Australia and the United States are her major threats.

The Olympic test run, which opened on Thursday, attracted few world-class swimmers as swimming powerhouses like the United States and Australia have sit out the event and sent observers instead.
