Volleyball: 'Secular Bird' Zhang back to national team
Zhang Na

(BEIJING, January 29) -- Zhang Na, who is nicknamed a 'secular bird' for her resistance to injuries and had undergone an operation of the cervical vertebra for three months since October 27 last year, has been called back to train with the national volleyball team.

According to the rehabilitation plan, she would take part in volleyball exercises beginning with the third month after her operation. But she has started to train after less than three months of recuperation due to her excellent physical condition. According to media reports, she received a call from Xu Li, director of the Volleyball Administrative Center of the State General Administration of Sport of China. The director asked Zhang to report on her injuries to the team's head coach, Chen Zhonghe, and make a decision on her return date. Chen told Zhang to return to the national team on February 1.

"I have prepared to back to the national team. But I never expected that I could come back so soon," Zhang said, adding that it was unexpected luck.

Zhang said she may experience very tough competition in the future. "I have not taken part in training sessions for quite a long time, and it will take a lot of work to find my best form."

"But I will try my best to compete in Beijing, so as not to feel sorry if I'm knocked out."
