NEW YORK, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Young and potential Novak Djokovic of Serbia rolled over experienced veteran Carlos Moya of Spain 6-4, 7-6 (7) and 6-1 on Thursday before waltzing into the men's singles semi-finals of the U.S. Open, his third Grand Slam semi this year.
After taking the first set 6-4, the 20-year-old Djokovic survived a set point to win 9-7 in the crucial tiebreak in the following set, and totally took control of the quarterfinal match.
The 31-year-old Moya, who won Roland Garros in 1998, was broken in the opening game of the final set and again in the fifth and seventh games.
This is Djokovic's third career Grand Slam semi-final, and third straight as well. He was a semi-finalist at a Grand Slam for the first time at Roland garros this year (losing to Nadal) and the semis at Wimbledon (falling again to Nadal).
In Saturday's semi-finals, Djokovic will face another Spaniard David Ferrer, who kept up his surprising run at the U.S. Open, reaching his first Grand Slam semifinal by defeating Juan Ignacio Chela 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 on Thursday at Flushing Meadows.
"Very fast. Three sets. It's better for the next match," said the 15th seed Ferrer, who is 2-1 against No. 3 seed Djokovic in the past.
Ferrer was too solid for the No. 20 seed Chela in the first two sets of the match, breaking twice in the opening set then once in the second set and not even facing a break point himself.
Chela gave it his all in the third, breaking early for a 2-0 lead, but Ferrer fought back and broke Chela at 5-all before serving it out for the match.
Top seed and three-time defending champion Roger Federer of Switzerland and 4th seeded Russian Nikolay Davydenko booked their final four berths on Wednesday.
