
Dayron Robles of Cuba darts to victory.
(BEIJING, February 3) -- Dayron Robles of Cuba on Sunday darted to victory in the 60 m hurdles in 7.36 seconds at the Sparkassen Cup, an international athletics indoor meeting, in Stuttgart.
The 21-year-old joined track luminaries Greg Foster and Allen Johnson, both of the USA, as the second fastest in history. The world record holder is Briton Colin Jackson who ran in 7.30 in 1994 in nearby Sindelfingen.
Chinese Liu Xiang missed the Stuttgart meet with Robles, as he is undergoing winter training in his hometown of Shanghai.
Robles beat Liu Xiang last year on the same track with a time of 7.38.
German Thomas Blaschek was second in 7.54, edging Johnson who reached the finish line in 7.55.
Swedish Susana Kallur was first in the women's 60 m hurdles with a time of 7.72 seconds.
British Craig Pickering won the men's 60 m in 6.58 seconds.
Ethiopian Tariku Bekele earned the victory in the men's 3,000 m in 7:31.09, while Ethiopian Meseret Defar won the women's 3,000 m in 8:27.93.
British Christopher Tomlinson won the men's long jump in 8.18 m, and Russian Yuriy Borzakovskiy won the men's 800 m in 1:45.58.
