(BEIJING, February 4) -- Below are the group selections in the Asian qualifiers for the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup, which were revealed on Sunday after the drawing of lots ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.
Thomas Cup:
A: Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Pakistan, Cambodia
B: Republic of Korea, Singapore, Vietnam
C: Japan, India, Philippine
D: Chinese Hong Kong, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Chinese Macao
Uber Cup:
W: Japan, Thailand, Cambodia
X: Republic of Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka
Y: Chinese Taipei, Chinese Hong Kong, Vietnam
Z: Malaysia, India
The Asian qualifiers for the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup will open from February 19 to 24 in Vietnam's biggest city -- Ho Chi Minh City.
A total of 13 national men's teams and 11 national women's teams will take part in the tournament in an effort to grab finals spots.
Because defending champion China and host Indonesia have booked two spots, Malaysian men's team will become the top seed in the men's competition, while the Japanese women's team will be the top seed in the women's competition.
The Thomas Cup, sometimes called the World Team Championships, is an international badminton competition contested by the men's national badminton teams of the member nations of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the sport's global governing body.
The Uber Cup, sometimes called the World Team Championships for Women, is a major international badminton competition contested by women's national badminton teams of the member nations of BWF.
