(BEIJING, January 22) -- The 2008 Olympic Games are not only a grand gathering of the world, but also an opportunity for China, said Hein Verbruggen, chairman of the IOC Coordination Commission for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
Taking the floor at a business forum on China in Geneva on Monday, Verbruggen said the Olympics will leave a precious legacy for the host country, according to a Xinhua report.
He praised China for doing a lot for the Beijing Olympics, such as its efforts in infrastructure development and urban traffic improvement.
He also described Beijing as a good example for other Chinese cities in facing environmental challenges.
Verbruggen said the impact of the Beijing Olympics is long-lasting. For instance, 400 million Chinese youths are actively taking part in the Olympic preparations, which is an invaluable experience.
He further noted that since the 1980s when China began to participate in the Olympic Movement, great change had taken place. Chinese enterprises need to integrate Chinese history and culture with trade, to achieve a win-win situation in its trade with other countries, he said.
