(BEIJING, June 20) -- The 69th Executive Board session of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) held here today heard a report on the progress of the implementation of the city's operation program.
In order to ensure the success of the Games, a detailed city operation program was formulated last year for the upcoming 2008 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, upon the request of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), to efficiently deal with the Games' atmosphere, city image, social order and security, and particularly to keep the city running smoothly during Games-time.
The program will benefit members of the Olympic Family, audiences, tourists, and local residents as they will be able to enjoy comprehensive and safe services in setting forth their journey and other activities.
The meeting called for increased awareness about the importance of the city operation program as it is the basis of smooth progress of the 2008 Olympic Games. The organizers will draw on the experiences of previous editions of the Olympic Games and the 2006 World Cup in Germany and set up a countdown work program in accordance with the Games-time practical requirements, with key projects highlighted to ensure the full implementation of the city operation program.
The areas where illegal buildings were pulled down should be meticulously laid out, with image and look projects, the grass and more sport fields planned and built. BOCOG and the "2008" Environmental Construction Office should enhance cooperation to upgrade logistics with an aim to provide the guests at home and abroad with considerate service, security and convenience.
The meeting studied and discussed the work program to recruit Games-time volunteers for the Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. According to the master plan of the Beijing Olympic Games, the open recruitment of Games-time volunteers will be kicked off in August this year. The meeting urged broad participation of the masses in the recruitment of Games-time volunteers in line with Olympic rules and international practice.
The meeting also debriefed reports on the layout of the northern part of the Olympic Village and the training venues of Beijing Paralympic Games.
