(BEIJING, December 25) -- Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center uses two solar energy systems -- one at the Logistics Center and one at the Athletes' Center.
The Logistics Center covers 5,800 square meters. It has a solar energy absorbing air-conditioning system and successfully provides cooling in summer, heating in winter and hot water year round. The system can save 473,000 kilowatt/h of electricity.
Solar-powered landscape lights and wind-powered street lamps also make up part of the scenery in the Olympic sailing center. It is not only environmentally friendly but adds to the beauty of Qingdao's coastline at night.
Forty-one wind-powered lights are installed along the main seawall. This design causes the windmill above the lights to rotate, when the wind speed reaches three meters/s. The lowest wind speed for the sailing events is also three meters/s. Therefore, when the windmill rotates, the spectators will know the competition will begin.
