(BEIJING, January 8) -- The overall layout and design schemes are complete for the 84-hectare Beijing Olympic Green central zone, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Planning, reported Xinhua News Agency.
The layout and design of the central zone includes, among other aspects, the overall landscaping blueprint, sign system, paving of the central axis and plaza, the waterways, planting of trees and plants, environmental facilities and lighting.
According to an official of the commission, the layout and design meet the requirements of the three concepts of "Green Olympics," "People's Olympics" and "High-tech Olympics." The layout and design incorporate modern design techniques with traditional Chinese garden elements.
At present, plans have been finalized for a sunken garden on the east side of the central axis, an ethnicities road, the waterways, the paving of the central axis plaza and greenbelts.
