(BEIJING, August 12) -- In a water-scarce metropolis like Beijing, residents appreciate the value of every drop of water.
Water conservation is also applied in the operation of the Olympic venues. The Olympic Green Hockey Field and Archery Field use recycled water from the existing Qinghe water recycling plant. These venues will also receive water from the Bei Xiao He water recycling plant when the plant is completed. Moreover, the venues are equipped with their own onsite wastewater treatment stations.
Reflecting a "Green Olympics," wastewater from the utility rooms and auxiliary buildings of the hockey and archery fields passes through the onsite treatment stations, and the recycled water is then used to water the venues' greenery.
Beijing currently has nine wastewater treatment plants that handle about 2.5 million cu m of wastewater per day.
The Qinghe and Beixiaohe water recycling plants have contracts to supply water to six of the Olympic venues located in the Olympic center, and the Qinghe plant already supplements the water supply for the Olympic Green.
