
A corner of the Olympic (Paralympic) Village
(BEIJING, March 5) -- The Olympic (Paralympic) Village, whose basic construction work is complete, is to begin receiving residents on July 27. Through a balanced union of humanism, architecture and environment, the village incorporates characteristics of the three major Beijing Olympic concepts of "Green Olympics," "Hi-Tech Olympics" and "People's Olympics."
People first
The Olympic (Paralympic) Village is located at the northwest corner of the Olympic Green, with the major Olympic competition venues to its south and the Olympic Forest Park to its north. It is composed of a residential district, international district, and operational district and covers an area of 66 hectares.

Main entrance to the village
During the Olympics the village will accommodate over 17,200 athletes and officials (7,000 athletes and officials during the Paralympics) and provide an array of services in terms of living, training, rest, entertainment.

A Chinese element
The residential district includes 20 nine-story buildings; 22 six-story buildings; three "super" residential service centers; and nine residential service centers and covers an area of 27.55 hectares, with a total construction area of 524,000 square meters. There is also a medical center (the Polyclinic) and a dining hall offering regional cuisines.

Model of the village
At the north end of the village, a temporary establishment will offer athletes services related to registration, leisure, dining, and fitness for the duration of their stay. This area will include a flag-raising square, the village mayor's office, a dining hall for athletes, a shopping center, a logistics center, and an ID card center.
